Mission Statement

Dominican Health e.V. is a non-profit association with the goal to support primary health care in the Dominican Republic where the existing structures are not sufficient to guarantee adequate care for the population. In Puerto Plata, together with a local initiative, this health care is supported in a very concrete way. With a view to sustainable structural support, particular attention was paid to ensuring that the structures already in place were supported by us, but could be supported by the actors in the country themselves.

In terms of content, the association is concerned on the one hand with the question of which concrete measures must be taken in order to achieve a higher degree of social and health justice, as well as its preservation and sustainable promotion, both regionally and globally. In doing so, we are guided by the “Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations. On the other hand, there is a direct social commitment on the ground. For the time being, this commitment refers to supporting the establishment of an outpatient and inpatient polyclinic in Puerto Plata, where poorer sections of the population in the region can be treated almost free of charge. Here, the cooperation focuses on the Dominican foundation “Fundación Milton Moronta”, which provides health care for the destitute and supports young people in getting better chances for a job through educational measures.

The association’s main task is to contribute materials, personal resources and health and care science know-how in such a way that the structures set up can be supported by local organisations. Last but not least, the association is also concerned with learning from other cultures and international networks, thinking health globally, promoting personal exchange and learning from experience. The association does not pursue religious aspirations, but is in particular connected to a tolerant, cosmopolitan and diversity oriented world view. Dominican Health e.V. pursues the goal of global empowerment in this context.
